11-4

Post by NorCal RF »

Some late thoughts. I had to get away a few days after Thursday………

I respect all who is placing the blame where ever for this loss. Will not question any of it because hey it should not have happened. Me?……..

100% on the D. You had 2 chances to seal the deal late in 4th and in OT and you could not do it. NFL is about making plays in the 4th both on offense and on D and you bleeped the bed D. All of you including DC. Inexcusable……..

D isn’t good right now. See Carolina. See first half AZ, see a lot of Detroit game, see what just happened. If they don’t figure it out soon well we will be watching another team in Santa Clara……..

Offense is as elite as it comes. Went up n down the field the other night without Adams n most of the game without Dotson. 37 points on the road against what is supposed to be to be the best D in the league. Just me how much more can we ask of them. McVay n Stafford or so in sync right now like no other QB in play caller…….

This offense will score anywhere in playoffs. Anywhere. But if 37 points isn’t enough to win a game well we are in trouble………

Dedich hell of a job. Same with all the receivers……

Nacua again just enjoy. On the field maybe the most I’ve ever been impressed with him……..

Hey I get the frustration over ST. But even with the punt return this D had 2 opportunities to win the game and failed………..

My last comments is remember at what end of the field did Smith have his big punt return. The wind was tough Thursday night…………

Evans is still a very good punter. Let’s not forget the first game against Seattle……..

D…….. Huge ass concern…….

agree on the D but I will say the offense shit the bed late in the game. they had 3 straight 3 and outs putting the defense back on the field so that has something to do with it as well. team loss IMO

Defense very inconsistent. Have consecutive three and outs and then a fucking bomb or Swiss cheese defense. ST left 11 points on field. Mevis missed his first clutch kick (real pressure kick). Offense as good as it was surprised they don’t win end of regulation. We’re in a good spot distance wise and time wise. Seattle held.

Championship teams deliver on all 3 phases of the game - or at least enough to close out games like the one on Thursday - if that doesn't change soon it will be tough to win in the playoffs

I agree with 99% of what you said, Nor, but the punt return is what shifted the momentum and put them back in the game. After that, our offense went three-and-out three times in a row.

Overall, the offense played very well, but the play-calling in those three series after the punt return was bad — really bad and extremely conservative. McVay has learned to be aggressive, but sometimes that ultra-conservative play-calling still shows up.

The defense also plays not to lose — soft, prevent-style coverage, giving receivers way too much cushion. Morris’ defense used to do the exact same thing, and we criticized it back then too. So I understand that this is what McVay wants — this style of play is coming from the top, from the head coach.

This team has allowed four insane comebacks this season. FOUR. So this isn’t an isolated issue (which would be acceptable) — it’s a trend, and a very concerning one.

What happens to this team when they have a big lead? Do they relax and think the game is over? Is this a coaching issue? Why do the coaches get so conservative and play ‘not to lose’ when they have a lead?

Something has to change. You cannot blow leads like this so often — it’s happened four times already, in the same season.

I remember McVay used to be the king of not blowing leads. He had something like a 99% win rate when leading by 14 points at halftime. I’m guessing that number has changed quite a lot this year. Look at this ( glendora posted ) :

I agree with the defense but the punt decision to kick it down the middle instead out of bounds got Blackburn fired and rightly so awful decision that probably nets us a win if it went out of bounds because the Seattle's offense would most likely have to spend 2-4 minutes to score and our defense would have lots of chances to stop them and penalties could have killed their drive etc. You can see where I'm going with this the game trajectory would have been harder to win.

The missed FG and 2pt backward pass conversion didn't help matters.

My concern with the defense is the scheme I say it constantly we don't get enough pressure on the QB. It feels predictable and not aggressive enough.

Many other valid points but if we had just punted the ball out of bounds it may have netted us the win.

As the Rams are assembled from drafted players, FA signings and on field coaching , we do not seem to respect or embrace acquiring D talent as a legit 2/3 if the team. D on Rams seems to be an afterthought - and it costs us dearly when important games are on the line.

They’re all important

We’ve won 11 which one of those weren’t important?

You know what cost us the other night was the offense failing to pick up a single first down after Turner’s pick

We had a golden opportunity to go up 3 scores with even a FG,and couldn’t even do that,so the offense shares the blame

Not true they did get 1st downs after Kobe's Pick. They didn't the next series. In fact, they had 2 - 3 and outs, then a drive of 37 yards and then a Punt, and then a drive of 51 yards that led to Mevis' missed 48 yard FG with 2 minutes left. The Offense had a bad sequence at a bad time but they recovered and drove us to that FG att for the leadm and 80 yards for a TD and the lead again, in our only OT possession. They did not lose us the game.
AGAIN... No Picks, No Fumbles, No Sacks. 37 Points, Missed FG should have been 40, 30 - 1st downs, 585 Total Yards. +14 minutes TOP....

We expect the offense to be perfect n place the blame on them when the D cant make 37 points enough to ………

I’m not saying the offense is why we lost,I’m saying they failed at some crucial times in that game which is true

This Rams offense can never put a game away from 6 minutes in on a 4 th quarter drive to save they’re lives

I can’t remember a game where they ran the clock out to seal the deal,it’s always 3 and out and the Defense has to hold to win the game

Which they’ve done more often then not

Mcvay was DISGUSTED by that punt return .He said something like " what I saw was a short /bad kick that completely changed the momentum of the game " . It took him forever but that punt is probably the reason he is jetsoning Blackburn , and I wouldn't be surprised if Evans is gone too . His punts have been HORRIBLE for someone that squats 500 pounds . That punt should have been OUT of bounds instead of right in the middle allowing the return .

Week 1 they ended the game with the ball 5 plays 24 yards killing off the final 1:53
Week 2 a 14 point win @ Titans. Rams kill off final 2:40 with 6 plays 29 yards. Are 2nd down at the 1 @ the 2 minute warning. Rams kneel back to the 5 and 7 on the next 2 plays then take the delay of game penalty which triggers a 30 second run-off and the end of the Game..
Just so they wouldn't have to score again! Is that what pisses you off 52??? There's more but you get the point...
How did they not seal the deal at the end of these 6 wins??
They beat the Ravens by 14, the Jags by 28, the 9ers by 16, The Saints by 24, the Bucs by 27 and the Cards by 28

I agree 37 pts is enough. Against that stout D. I think the issue fans have was the timing on the points. We had 30....but we needed 1 more score to seal the win in the 4th. You can't expect scores each time on the field. Their D came up big - AFTER giving up 30! Then another 7 in OT. Yeah. Cannot complain about those 1st downs. It was a magnificent display of offense for the game as a whole. The D.....and ST....split the blame. And of course the refs, not making excuses. But they cost us 6 points. we lost by 1. We need to get after the qb better. and Landman had an off day.
