McVay "There are things we can learn from this" No there isn't.

Post by malibu »

We absolutely should have rolled this team period there is no excuse, nothing to learn from it. Poor defense all day against a team without their starting Center and Right Guard out and a marginal QB prone to mistakes their best cb, backup cb who was replacing Horn, and starting ILB.

This was an absolute must win. We have 2 really tough games left those Seattle and Detroit were questionable wins.

We need home field in the playoffs so we don't need to go to cold, rainy, possible snow type weather in Chicago, Greenbay, Philly, Seattle, even SF. Weather can effect the outcome of a game.

It hasn't been showing up lately at all the last 4 games. We need to blitz more i keep saying it over and over. Blitzing will get the QB off their spot.

There is a lot to learn from a game like today……………..

This was not a “must win”. What are season ended today? Such a comment is laughable…………….

It would be great if we had the #1 seed yes. But the thought that this team can’t win in bad weather is a joke. The only one who thinks that is you n a few others. Where did Stafford play before here? Adams? Kyren in college? Corum in college? Etc etc. You act like this is the softest team in the history of…………..

Weather can affect the home team also…………..

Even the best teams in the league take losses from time to time. I think the main thing to learn from this game is that if Stafford lowers his level the Rams lower their level. They go as he goes.

The only thing we can learn from this is that our D LINE is greatly OVERRATED . These guys ARE NOT that good . We also learned Forbes cannot be a starter. He is too inconsistent.

They are 2nd in PPG allowed but not that "good"?

How does that work exactly?
ppg allowed is not the only metric that matters , pretty important one but that the only one . It is the third time this defense collapses and let opponents play smash mouth football and they have no answers.

Lot of over reaction... my only take away from this is that its the NFL... we were due a bad performance and I'm glad it happened now.

Lets face it, we are a fair weather team and we beat ourselves.

The DL was out of sorts for sure until they needed to step up in the 4th which they did.

I noticed our WRs were stuck in the rain on their routes. should have used more quick release TE plays but just didn't happen.

It is what it is...

The only thing i really learnt is that if we need to play in Green bay, Philadelphia or Chicago for the NFC in inclement weather, we are screwed.

I'm not sure there is a front 7 I'd rather have than the Rams.

Philly, Cleveland Houston, GB, Denver????

Maybe the Broncos or Philly. I could argue is better. And even then I like our unit.

Claiming they are not that good is a stretch.
They’re not much better than the ones you mentioned — maybe not even as good as some of them. Seattle’s front seven is better than ours too. This defense plays well in the red zone, where the field is smaller and it’s easier to cover all the spaces. So they allow teams to march down the field, and then they tighten things up and play disciplined football.

So far, we’ve allowed 1,294 rushing yards on 329 attempts, which is 3.9 yards per carry. Those numbers put us around 9th–10th in the league. Like I said, they’re good, but probably not that good — definitely not miles ahead of other defenses. Good, but far from the best in the league.

Those are very average numbers. There are plenty of teams with similar stats (3.9 per carry), and about five teams with better run-defense numbers (Browns, Broncos, Seahawks, Raiders, Packers). They also rank #9 in total sacks, which is good — still top 10 — but far from elite. I miss AD so much... lol . AD at 5 % is 3 x better than Fiske. I am hoping Verse can be the next Von Miller but it seems it might take a while , or it might never happen.

Over the past several seasons the Rams were pretty bad defending 3rd and long. I dreaded 3rd and long more than 3rd and short. Till yesterday, they seemed to have learned from that for the most part this season. That’s been one of the reasons to feel optimistic, for me anyway. Yesterday not only brought back the 3rd and long weirdness but added 4th and long. They need to learn to stop doing what they were doing yesterday. Otherwise, Brissett and Harrison will burn them next week.

Things learned:

Don't turn the ball over- certainly not in the endzone or a pick 6 or the final drive to win it.
Draft a cover CB early- weak in that area.

Mcvay like most coaches likes the rams as the underdog.

Probably also seen the players getting a little too full of themselves.

Imo the rams needs to win out. If they do, they get the 1st seed and this Carolina game would be looked at as a good learning experience.

Time will tell

With that said the rams went winless in November, the year they won the SB. So I have confidence that the Rams can be fixed.

McVay will always deliver silly coach speak after a whiff like this that no one buys - but he feels compelled to deliver it to galvanize his squad. His team was not ready to play and did not respond to his message - the fact that his grizzled QB was the worst offender on O made it more unreal. Our DC and his D game plan are not tried and true effective. This game was conducted in similar fashion to the Seattle game minus the 4 picks- but they also negated our O as his D scheme could not get them off the field and allow our O to play. More physical aggressive style must be part of our D future.

The Eagles Lost to the 2-10 Giants, the Pats lost to the 2-10 Raiders, the Pack lost to the 6-6 Panthers like we did, the Bills lost to the 4-8 Falcons, Detroit lost to the 4-8 Vikings, The Chargers lost to the 2-10 Giants and 3-9 Commanders, The Ravens just lost to the 4-8 BenGals.
None of their seasons ended...They're all still playoff contenders

Carolina also beat Seattle & Green Bay - hmmmm and add Carolina coaching staff & players who came from the Rams and I suspect this had some impact BUT Rams destroyed any chance of winning with turnovers and overall poor effort.

There is ALWAYS something that can be learned, win or lose. Whatever he thinks it was, hopefully he learned it and won't repeat it/ I still maintain, better a clunker now than with the tougher games.

I thought we already learned all those things in the Eagles and 49ers loss. This was just a TERRIBLE loss all the way around - Shula made Bryce Young look like a probowler and the run defense was the same run defense we saw last year.

Both of our lines are better than average not dominating. At least the pass ptotect is excellent. We can be beat in thr trenches which meand defense should blitz and play closer up and STaff has to be on target to beat who give ud hell in the trenches.

Very concerning, AFAIC that's more on the players than coaching...
Carolina had 3 big scoring plays that the Rams weren't giving up all year that they don't usually get!
The 28 points should have been enough to overcome a team the scores 18.0 points a game, regardless of Staffs TO's.

1 thing I hope McVay learned...Havs needs to stay on the bench in favor of McClendon. I'm def worried that he will get his job back based on tenure which should not be the case. He can be a great mentor and backup. Lets see what happens when he's back and healthy.
