I feel bad for those players who didn't make it

Post by malibu »

This off-season was a tough one for an UDFA to make this squad. Imo there are a bunch who could make many other team's 53. Hopefully Pressley, Paul, Bowles, Ingles etc clear waivers. So much talent which is a testament to our superior scouting staff.

The good is if a player goes down we can feel good about the PS replacement.

Next big hurdle is clearing waivers which is a scary thought. To me the Rams feel like the poaching ground for players and coaches.

Me too actually-you can go from a multi millionaire to poverty in a few years. Can go either way.

It's business... the hard part, is most of these kids are pretty young, so it's a tough lesson young in life... but still, a good lesson.

I just still cannot believe we cut Chris Paul Jr, yet we traded up to get him. We literally traded away TWO picks to nab that guy.

Yep, this is why it's so important for these guys to adhere and listen to the business / financials classes the NFL offers.

Usually the biggest culprit as to why these guys hit the skids so soon is family. Family and extended family and then their entourages usually wipe these kids clean and it's sad. Tough lesson for these guys. Then, you have pride and bling crap... Man, if I managed ANY of these guys, I would tell them to immediately try and live on 20-30% of their income and invest and put the rest away for the future. Seriously, act like that 60-70% does NOT exist, then watch it grow like wildfire in some good mutual funds, and other options, just diversify... since they are so young at the average age of 23... you put away 60% and let it grow for 25-30 years... my goodness, at age 52-53 you are a king and would never have to work again.

Making your first million isn't that hard... it's keeping it, is the difficult part.

When I was a kid I worked for a hotel chain that supported a well known nfl team. I was the van driver for airport runs. All of the rookies stayed at the hotel. It was a very sad day when I drove the players to the airport for the last time. These men had played football all of their lives. This was their dream and it abruptly ends. I always will remember those drives, they were human, not just professionals.
