Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
Looks like we are 2 weeks in and Center is still the biggest question mark. I do not understand why we are not bringing Reiter, or any experienced center for that matter in for a visit. Some are saying that McVay is just trying to get someones attention by shifting Allen to center and Corbett to Guard. Well if you really want to get someones attention on the O line then bring in a Center who started in the last 2 Super Bowls. There is no down side to bring him in at this point in Camp. No way he breaks the bank and we have cap space. Our O line has to be good if we are going anywhere.

Btw .. as expected o line not looking good.

You only go as far as your talent allows. I hope they didn't neglect the o line again. They sure should have learned their lesson by now. Trenches is what matters most and I don't see the rams investing in the o line for quite some time now.

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
The downside?
If we smartly hire an experienced Vet Center?
We won’t get to pat ourselves on the back for finding great gems like Brian Allen or Bobby Evans, that’s the most important thing
OL is just not gonna be addressed like CB or WR by these guys (McSnead)

The issue might not be center it could be guard. Evans struggles at pass blocking.
Its more of Allen vs Evans

If Allen is in because Evans is struggling, it's bad news. Hopefully it is because Allen is coming on. After all, they invested a high (for the Rams) pick on him.

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
From what I am gathering is Allen been impressive so far. Allen and Corbett is > Evans and Corbett. I'm not surprised Evans is a liability as a pass protector.Rams since '66 wrote: ↑August 10th, 2021, 5:03 pm If Allen is in because Evans is struggling, it's bad news. Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
a lot of us have been talking about this for a while now. I truly believe this is an ego thing with McSnead. One of the biggest concerns going into the off season was the OL. Guess what everyone is talking about right now???? The OLine. Time will tell

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
we were both on this issue from the beginning it really boggles my mind, how cheap a serviceable proven interior OL would have cost us or drafting Humphrey or Dickerson this year or Biadasz(sp) last year

I am going to follow Humphrey in his career. Just curious to see how he does because we could have drafted him.therealheadslap75 wrote: ↑August 11th, 2021, 10:08 amwe were both on this issue from the beginning it really boggles my mind, how cheap a serviceable proven interior OL would have cost us or drafting Humphrey or Dickerson this year or Biadasz(sp) last year

My question is if he is so good, why is he still out there on the open market? What are we missing?

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
From what I've been reading, the money he wants is too much for a center that is mediocre at run blocking.

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
I just think you have to be solid at center if you are going anywhere in this league. I don't think they let Blythe go because they felt great about Allen that's for sure so something there has already changed. Now maybe Allen got stronger and will be great but adding an experienced guy can not be a bad thing. Our Gs and C position guys scare me a little bit. I hope I am wrong but no point in getting Stafford and then Atwell and D Jack if he wont have time to throw the ball and to let those guys get down field. .

Cmon. We got a 150 pound receiver instead. What could go wrong?ocram23 wrote: ↑August 11th, 2021, 10:19 amI am going to follow Humphrey in his career. I think he wants too much money , someone said that . And it also seems he is very average at run blocking . Great at pass blocking but average to bad at run blocking .

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
Boy, I sure hope we are not moving Allen back because we cant afford for Corbett to move to center!! But it certainly wouldn't surprise me. I see we picked up OT Ryan Pope, looking back to 2019 draft grades, this guy is not the type of player we need to be brining in!!!Rams since '66 wrote: ↑August 10th, 2021, 5:03 pm If Allen is in because Evans is struggling, it's bad news. Rams need camp bodies for the preseason games bc Mcvay rarely play starters in games.29TheBest wrote: ↑August 12th, 2021, 12:03 amBoy, I sure hope we are not moving Allen back because we cant afford for Corbett to move to center!! Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
Well...Tutu and Tavon are nothing alike unless you are only looking at the fact they are both small fast guys.
Tutu is going to be the downfield threat the Rams were looking for whereas TA was more of a screen / short crossing route type of player that relied on his "after the catch" ability and his hands were always unreliable all the way back to college

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
Just don't understand the Russian roulette with the OL, its just not valued enough by these guys and its kind of the one area that we can't cover up. You can scheme receivers, backs, you can protect cornerbacks with a good pass rush, you can even move more guys in the box if you have a weak run D, but a bad OL is hard to cover up in the NFL.
Has McSnead gotten away with covering some things up? kind of, but why not go all out and make this unit a major strength?

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
You paid a Kings Ransom to get Stafford and for good reason. Why not sign a guy who did not give up a sack last season and started every game to play a position where you have no clear , established starter. Doesn't it just make sense to maximize your investment? The man cannot throw from his back. Again what would the down side be?

Rams started 3 different centers in Mcvay first 4 years. They still manage to finish anywhere from top 6 to 12 depending on what publication you use to judge the ol, made the playoffs 3 out if 4 and finished above .500 every year.

Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
Crytal ball -No .. PVR Yes and what I see on that is an overmatched man working hard but failing. Now I hope I am wrong and I hope he spent a year getting strong as hell. Just wanting a back up plan in place. I know this he wont see a snap in Preseason . But Im no coach so hopefully I am proven wrong. nothing would make me happier.Cornell29 wrote: ↑August 12th, 2021, 4:56 pmUnless you have a crystal ball, I am in wait and see mode.Simdaddy wrote: ↑August 12th, 2021, 3:02 pm You paid a Kings Ransom to get Stafford and for good reason. Re: Whats the downside to bring in Reiter?
I think McVay is afraid to admit when he is wrong. We all know it, the reason for the move is because Corbett is a much better RG than Evans. I will be saying it all season. WE SHOULD HAVE USED OUR FIRST PICK ON A STUD CENTER. Sure, I hope Atwell plays good, but unless he’s returning punts, I don’t know how much we benefit from his speed. Especially since he might be as far down as our #5 receiver. It looks like it’s going to be Woods, Kupp, and Jefferson starting, with Jackson and Atwell coming in on special packages. We really needed a good center to bring our O line together. I hope Allen proves me wrong.

Rams signed John Sullivan after the draft in his rookie season. Admitting that he didnt properly address the position in the draft or free agency.
Mcvay benched Allen for Blythe in early 3rd season. Admitting that starting Allen was a mistake.
When Edwards played well, Noteboom remained on the bench at guard. Admitting that Noteboom wasn't starting guard material.
When Evans played well at RT, Mcvay didnt quickly return Hav to the starting spot, despite giving Hav a extension a year before.
Mcvay swallowed Goff huge contract, and admitting he was wrong when he resigned him.
Mcvay admitted he was wrong about Cooks when he traded him.
Mcvay admitted he was wrong with the ST coach he hired last year and replaced him.
Mcvay admitted he screwed up with Sloman and moved on from him before he cost the rams any games.
Why now would Mcvay not admit he was wrong when he has so many times in the past?
