Football Picks

Post by GlendoraRam »

Wanted to check the interest level of adding a weekly football pickem feature to the forum.
This would be a feature that allows members to pick winners each week. It shows weekly stats on the members who are leaders, etc. Would you guys participate? Would it be worth the effort?
Please comment.

I’ve been doing the one in the original herd/rams rule site for years. Not many of us left. If we say yes to this then we need to be active every week for it to be fun IMO in fairness to upland.

A suggestion upland if you do this is don’t lock the entire week by kick off of the Thursday game(s). Just the Thursday game(s) and then the weekend games by say 8:00am Sunday pst. Sucks when you forget to pick the Thursday game, log on Saturday to pick Sunday/Monday games only to realize you are too late because the entire week had to be picked by Thursday kickoff.

OK, give me a few days and I will get it loaded. It will take some tweaking and hopefully, the php version of the server is compatible with the script.
I will keep everyone updated.

I like this idea and will do my best to be active enough to post every week...I think I can, I think I can.....also though Norcal added some very good insight.

Perhaps an extra column for percentage of correctness would be great for those of us that may miss a week...it will keep the interest level up....If I miss a week I wouldn't have incentive to post picks anymore but if I could track my percentage it would keep my interest.

Just thoughts...I like the idea of the weekly picks

If I go 15-0 week one, I'm sitting out the rest of the season and declaring myself the winner. ;)

I'm in too.
Would this be straight up "pick 'em" or would we go with the early (or late) betting line? 8-)

LOL...I always find the games early in the season harder to predict....I play a lot against the spread and found it's hard to get a read on teams until about week 4...so.....you go undefeated week 1 would be awesome.

OK, I have a script and installed. It is going to take a few weeks to finish the updates for the 2021 season. I need to manually enter the entire NFL schedule, modify the php for the expanded weeks of the new season, do some cosmetic work on the HTML and test it. I will keep everyone posted.

You could also just use free service of “Yahoo Pic’em” and people can just register with their email. You could just report weekly winners here. It would make life much simpler for you. Just a thought. All the tie breaker rules and everything are already done.

Guys,

After looking into the script I have, there are a few issues. The script requires an older version of PHP. After downgrading to the required version, I have noticed performance issues with the forum.

So, I will use this: http://www.nflpickspage.com/invite.php?id=1268291260

Please check it out and comment let me know what you think.

Looks fine upland. Similar to what the herd uses. They use pool host.
