Bert Jones, 30 years old at the time and a former NFL Most Valuable Player, was in fact featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, along with Georgia Rosenbloom Frontiere, immediately after the Rams acquired him ("Madame Ram Gets Her Man").

Hopefully Stafford's career with the Good Guys will turn out to be more successful, however there's no guarantee of that--which remains my point... :P

What were Goff’s limitations that warranted the need for the roll outs and play actions?

Play action is actually one of Stafford’s string suits so McVay might want to keep those in the playbook.

Goff doesn't have any major limitations. Some on this site just let GDS (Goff Derangement Syndrome) get the best of them. Point is McVays offense is based on a lot of smoke and mirrors in which the play action plays a major role. Now I do think the Rams run a lot of play action ad nauseam. However, since Goff was a spread QB in college, I highly doubt being under center as much Goff was, was his choice.

Don't think McVay will be doing less play action because Stafford is here. But guess we'll see...

Stafford did a lot of play action in college. The issue with Play Action pass in Detroit is nobody cared if they ran the ball. Nobody would really bite on the run. Hopefully with a run game to support him this will be a bonus. I am not a huge fan of smoke and mirrors but a basic play action to get stop the linebackers from cheating will do wonders.

Actually the roll outs and play action benefited Goff IMO. He at times was quite good when the play was designed to roll out. The problem was he couldn’t avoid a single rusher with his feet for the life of him. Threw the ball away or constantly checked down when given any kind of pressure from a single rusher. One thing to do so with multiple defensive players coming at you. Ugly when your QB doesn’t have the athletic ability to avoid one rusher that can easily be avoided with your feet.

In retrospect, most of them had little QB 'savior' potential, and I strongly doubted their efficacy at the time that our team acquired a couple of them, namely Joe Namath and Steve Bartkowski.

However, they were hyped by numerous 'talking heads' on television--in Namath's case, notably Howard Cosell--and had many Rams fans excited, which is how they're parallel to Matthew Stafford today.

However, obviously anyone can believe whatever he/she desires about Stafford's playing future with the Good Guys, I've never insisted that my history-based skeptical perspective be shared by any other fans... 8-) :geek:

Not important to me. If he stays healthy then I think this offense is going to be awfully good. Stafford is going to allow McVay to open up a play book that we have not seen before. Could careless about the pro bowl status. I think the offense will need to be because IMO losing Johnson, Hill, Brockers, and Staley on D is a big deal.
