Definitely a reach in my opinion. As far as I can tell, he wasn’t projected to be in the top 3 rounds. Rarely do I hate the Rams picks. I hate this pick.

They said if not for an injury, he would have been a first rounder...

Michael’s called it a smart pick, no longer can teams just stack the box... and that teams don’t press much any more, or can they hit like they used to, so hopefully his size doesn’t matter.

They said some teams were checking to see if he was melting away...

Smith is pretty skinny too, despite being 4 inches taller he is only 15 pounds heavier.

Tutu best compares to Marquise Brown who was 5-9 166 pounds when he was drafted.

Most fans who’ve been paying attention to mock drafts and the Jacksonville Jaguars know by now that the team very well could snag a speed threat at receiver in the 2021 NFL Draft. With this in mind, ESPN’s Todd McShay slotted the Jags Louisville speedster Tutu Atwell at pick No. 33 in his latest mock draft, which caused mixed feelings from the fanbase.

Days after the mock, McShay further explained his top-4 selections for the Jags with picks 1, 25, 33, and 45. His comrade for many years, Mel Kiper Jr. joined him for the segment and also gave his analysis on Atwell — a player who he believes would help presumptive No. 1 pick, Trevor Lawrence, tremendously.

“When you watch him play, I know he’s below 160 [pounds] and is small, but he’s really explosive and is a touchdown waiting to happen in the open field,” said Kiper. “I think when you look at his hands and elusiveness when the ball is in his hands, he fits today’s game perfectly — the space game. That’s Tutu Atwell and that’s why he’d be a fear factor player down there in Jacksonville with Trevor Lawrence.”

Devonta Smith isn’t small. He’s fairly average size for a WR. Same size as Torry Holt.

Just admit you had no idea how tall Devonta was and spouted off in an ignorant way to defend the Rams.

Yeah, all of those guys liked the pick... speed speed and more speed... 4.27 I think they said, fastest receiver in the draft...

Yeah Holt was 6 foot and around 192 pounds when he was drafted. No comparison.

If you are 5’8, you’re probably only in the slot and only doing gadget plays or returning kicks. I wouldn’t use a 2nd rd pick on a guy like that.

Likewise, when you got tiny WRs, that means the QB has to be even more pinpoint accurate bc the catch radius of a 5’8 player is a so small.

It’s just a pointless pick. Even if you wanted a KO/PR, you wouldn’t use a 2nd rounder.

Went at looked at some other boards to see opinion of our first pick.

I’d say it’s about 75/25 negative.

This was the most positive one I found:

“•Brings legitimate deep-ball danger to the field.

•Breakaway speed as home-run hitter with a stack of long TDs to his name.

•Touchdowns of 50-plus yards are piled high during his career.

•Multiple touchdowns on pop pass (jet sweep).

•Shows ability to slam brakes and open quickly oncomeback routes.

•Easy separation burst from his turns.

•Hits second and third gear on post routes.

•Above-average awareness and footwork near boundaries.

•Had to leave some production on field due to quarterback play.

•Over-the-shoulder ball-tracking talent.”

The most negative ones were all a variation of ‘sh*t pick’, many referencing Tavon plus passing on Bolton and Humphrey.

Rams philosophy since 2017 wasn't to only draft for the upcoming year but also draft for the years after. Why would they change their philosophy now after having good success with it?

I sincerely hope I am wrong but on a team that is loaded at WR and where there are many other needs you don't go out and draft a 5'8 WR.......I think you could have gotten him later.

Rams philosophy since 2017 wasn't to only draft for the upcoming year but also draft for the years after. Why would they change their philosophy now after having good success with it?

That philosophy would reinforce going for an IOL or ILB as they are pretty much all UFA after this season.

I think McVay gets first shot for his offense and then they start paying attention to actual needs. Not a sound approach, IMO.

They did use picks this year to build for now. His name is Jalen Ramsey. Rams will use some picks for now and some for later. It isn't realistic to depend on a late 2nd round rookie to help you win now, no matter who the player is. Especially a rookie center like some here wanted.

TuTu is awesome; can't teach speed. Jet sweeps, deep routes, and flanker screens. Defenses will have to account for him. Arizona has one of these guys and now so do we.
