28 for 28 on XP's
5 for 5 on FG's

It is simply amazing to me that this guy splits the uprights almost every single time and is a perfect 33 for 33. I wish more of those were FG's but he will get his chance.

Great move by McVay.

Having seen him at Mizzou, its amazing to me that he has not made and NFL team until the Rams took a chance. I believe he was near perfect in the UFL too.

Yep...the pressure this guy has been under and the way he has showed is simply an amazing story. If he goes on to have a long career it's the kind of stuff they make a movie about

I hope he keeps having to attempt XPs and not FGs.

They kept Karty way too long and the excuses made for him with blaming the blocking was a joke. Mevis kicks the ball high therefore never gets blocked.

He’s got a power leg like Zuerlein. I hope McVay lets him kick some deep ones rather than punt.

There were issues with Ward the snapper too. McQuaide has made a difference. But even with McQuaide snapping, I doubt that Karty would be as good as Mevis. His head got pretty screwed up, and that worsened his mechanics. He needs a fresh reboot.

If he keeps going like this, I expect us to cut Karty this offseason

Same here, I was at that K-state game when he set the new SEC record. I was surprised Karty went ahead of him. Even if it was to us.

I'm all on board the Mevis train but it's worth noting that Karty never got a chance to kick with McQuaid. I agree with the mental aspect though. Botched snaps and holds would mess with any young kicker. Karty will stick with another team and be a good kicker.

Maybe they’ll have an actual kicking competition in the offseason. Mevis has been rock solid, so they must have good reasons to keep Karty around. I’m concerned, however, because McQuaide just turned 38. Could he still snap next year?

Are you suggesting you'd rather have FG's then TD's? Really?? :?:

Only in the sense that a few more 50 yarders would make me feel more comfortable instead of chip shot XP's. I guess you and some others didn't understand that.

"Understand that"? You're statement on it isn't informative enough to deduct that point, unless one is a mind reader....
I'm pretty sure Mevis is kicking them from 50+ every day in practice. I get that it probably comes w/o pressure from a D like in a game, but it's all about execution and the speed of that execution, getting the kick off, up and accurate fast. I think he'll be ready.
That's what Karty struggled with.
I'm good with the low FG attempts. We're the 2nd highest in PPG, so we must be scoring TD's... let's hope it continues for 6 more games...
One other thing, the wind and the rain may affect kicks, I guess if that's the case, we'll get to see how he handles that environment.
Seems to me that he's been generally been a straight kicker so far. Sometimes the wind makes you have to try and fade it thru....
