Because of poor coverage like this

Post by Cornell29 »

Everyone, including myself, wants Shula to be more aggressive on D. But when he does, which is rare, poor cb coverage like this happens.

Unfortunately bc of this, I expect the continuation of more deep safety off man coverage.

Even worse than the coverage .. he wasn't strong enough to bring the guy down. Not like he was tackling a 260 TE
GR .. shaken not stirred

It’s one thing playing tight coverage then a completely different thing playing 20+ yards off the ball.

I’m not asking for close man to man every play, but we barely see a happy medium. For example… when it’s 3rd and 4, why are we playing 20 yards back? Don’t even need to be extremely tight, but 3-5 yards off the ball has worked for decades.

Maybe Shula does not trust our Defensive backs to do this, so he’s playing them to the best of their individual ability?

I’ll say this though, damn straight sick of yelling at my TV when it’s 3rd and 4… yet our DB’s are in Pasadena while everyone else is in Englewood.

With Ahkello back and having a game under his belt, hopefully we'll see a return to the more aggressive approach that saw the team second in sacks behind Denver a month ago. On the same hand I wonder though because Lake is out.. I guess it's a we'll see kind of thing

I have always said....CB is THE most difficult position outside qb. Only a rare few can be true cover corners who can play right on top of an NFL wr. Forbes needed to play a little more off on that one. Speed is essential. We gotta grab a real top CB in draft. Tough position.

Perfect example of this was in the Seattle game on Seattle's last play. They needed a few more yards to get to closer FG range. So I believe it was Cobie Durant who was playing 10 yards off the ball. WHY?????? Shula game them a free 8 yards ridiculous we got lucky Seattle's kicker missed the kick.
